Emerge With Horses

Hoses

Howdy.  My name is Jake LeClair and I feel grateful to be of service as the Emerge with Horses program’s human coach. I have a gift and passion for helping humans reach their potential, especially through horses. That drive turned into a hunger to thrive in my life.  At times this hunger has served me well. At times I have taken the hunger to excess.  Beginning The Journey I began a journey two years ago to a way of living that allows me to live on…

Letting Go in Addiction Recovery…to be Happy, Joyous and Free!

let go and let god

15 Things to Let Go Of   Here’s a list of 15 things to learn to ‘let go’ of, if you want to be truly happy. Letting go can be simple and straightforward, but difficult to consistently apply to our lives. We need to practice them, over and over, so that the newly learned pattern becomes the default, standard behavior. Remind yourself, over and over, to let go of…. 1. Your need to always be right. “Would I rather be right, or happy?” 2. Control 3. Blame 4. Self-defeating self-talk 5. Limiting beliefs about what you can or cannot do, about what is possible or impossible. “A belief is not an idea held by the mind, it is an idea that holds the mind” 6. Complaining. Never underestimate the power of positive thinking. 7. Criticism. Give up your need to…

It May Be Your Best Idea Yet to Spend Christmas in Rehab! We wish you a Merry Christmas. Bah Humbug! That’s a sentiment expressed by many people at this time of year. The pressures can be unbearable for such a joyous time, even more so for addicts and alcoholics, even if they are sober in recovery. But Why? Old Wounds Cut Deep Let’s forget about the stresses of buying gifts and how much to spend and cooking and baking and finding the time to do it all. Instead, look deeper into the issues of why Christmas is such a difficult time for the active addict or alcoholic, or the clean and sober addict in recovery. Relapse Again Now What? You’ve had a relapse again. Now what? The word relapse is perhaps the most ominous word in the addiction recovery vocabulary. Why? Because regardless if you have been sober one month or 20 years, relapse again is a possibility every addict or alcoholic faces. Does a relapse mean that it was all for nothing, that you’re a failure? Absolutely not! But what’s next? The Emotional Turmoil A relapse is possibly the most devastating blow to a person’s recovery. The emotional stress can seem unbearable. You’re feeling shame and guilt. You’re embarrassed. An overwhelming, gut-wrenching, all-consuming sense of failure fills you to the core. Your body aches with misery. You want to hide away from the public shaming and ridicule you are positive will follow if anyone found out. What you’re feeling is normal. It’s what you…

Byron Katie’s The Work in Addiction Treatment Rehab

The Work of Byron Katie in Drug Rehab

Using The Work of Byron Katie in Residential Treatment for Alcoholism The Early Days of 12 Step Recovery Recovery from addiction began with one alcoholic, Bill W., talking to another alcoholic, Dr. Bob, May 13, 1935, in Akron, Ohio. The 12 Step Literature of Alcoholics Anonymous, Narcotics Anonymous, Overeaters Anonymous, Al-Anon, etc., are treasure troves of this recovery design for living. AA and other 12 Step program’s General Service Conference-approved literature reflect the group conscience of the Fellowship of the individual 12 Step programs. This is where the program of recovery, and how to live it is spelled out precisely. Alcoholism and other forms of addiction became to be understood as a malady of body, mind and spirit. Ongoing sobriety is…
