Finding Hope and Renewal This Christmas: Embrace The Gift of Sobriety at Serenity Vista Luxury Rehab
The tragedy for too many of us is not that our lives are too short, but that we take so long before we start to live them. ~ Mark Williams – The Mindful Way through Depression
Breaking free of alcohol, nicotine, other drugs or codependency is definitely a step in the right direction, but you are going to need to make further changes if you hope to establish a solid recovery. Ending the substance abuse or damaging behavior means you can now begin making the changes that will lead to happiness – there can be no progress without this step, but it is still only the first step. Going to rehab may be the extra help with your addiction you need to recover. The purpose of an inpatient drug or alcohol rehab program is to provide you with the ideal environment for change. It means you will be surrounded by people who support your transformation, and you will have access to the tools needed to make it happen.
Everyone has inside of him a piece of good news. The good news is that you don't know how great you can be! How much you can love! What you can accomplish! And what your potential is! ~ Anne Frank
One of the saddest aspects of being caught up in addiction is we start to believe this way of living is the best we can hope for. This happens as we replace our dreams with the demands of feeding a habit. There is so much potential inside all of us, but it is only after we quit alcohol, nicotine, other drugs, codependency or acting out in other ways that we begin to blossom. By the time you leave rehab, you will being to get a glimpse of what is possible.
One of the main problem with dishonesty is it means we are no longer living in accord with reality – this is especially the case when we find it hard to be honest with ourselves. These may sound like clichés but ‘the truth will set you free’, and ‘you are only as sick as your secrets’ are facts of life. There is a wonderful feeling that comes when we commit to living honestly – it means we can let go of shame and the worry that we will be ‘found out’.
The one thing that addiction teaches us is that running away from our pain just doesn’t work. In fact, the vast majority of our suffering originates from these attempts to escape the ups and downs of life. When we decide to just be with our discomfort, we find the pain is only temporary and being with it is much easier than trying to escape it.
The one thing that being in rehab does is demonstrate clearly that the claim ‘a leopard never changes its spots’ is untrue. Breaking free of an addiction is one of the hardest changes you will ever have to make, and the fact that you can do this is extremely empowering – if you can do this what more can you do? By transforming your life in rehab, you will never again be satisfied with the idea ‘it is just the way I am’.
