Thanksgiving Gratitude: Discovering Renewal and Freedom at Serenity Vista
Is there a cure for addiction? This is a commonmyth of addiction treatment based upon a lack of understanding of the disease nature of alcoholism and other forms of addiction. The notion of a "cure" is about a one-shot quick fix which is contrary to the nature of addiction. Despite great advances, modern medicine has yet to develop such a "cure". It’s true that there are medications available today, but these are only effective in initial stages of recovery and when combined with comprehensive recovery programs. For addiction is a chronic, progressive disease. Yes, it requires treatment, but the goal of treatment is to arrest the progression and reverse the negative consequences, to effectively put the addiction into a type of 'remission', with hopefully an improved quality of life. And to maintain the 'remission' and quality of life, ongoing 'maintenance' is required. Put in another way, there is no simple cure or one-size-fits-all approach to overcoming addiction. Instant gratification has no place in recovery. But while there is no silver bullet when it comes to treating addiction, there is a silver lining. Effective treatment resulting in lasting sobriety and a life of peace of mind and serenity is possible.
"Once an addict, always an addict," is the popular saying shared by many involved with addiction recovery, rehab or rehabilitation. This saying is also an over simplification of a complex problem and is the other side of the coin expressed in myth 1. Just as there is no simple 'cure' for addiction, similarly, at the other extreme, an addict is not predetermined to a life of addiction with pain and misery. At Serenity Vista, we know that with the right attitude, a supportive environment, a caring community, effective treatment, and a holistic approach, people have the capacity to heal and remain sober for the rest of their lives, one day at a time. At Serenity Vista, our treatment programs are effective and lasting because they are comprehensive, fully life integrated, and highly unique. We offer addicts complete transformation in ways that other treatment facilities cannot. We recognize that addiction, although difficult and all-consuming, is treatable and recovery is possible.Time and time again, our guests have shown that if they follow their 'design for living' after care treatment plan, they will remain sober, one day at a time.
Relapse, that feared and four-letter word of the recovery process, is the single-most discouraging experience for anyone on the recovery path to freedom. Some conventional thinking is that relapse is inevitable and perpetual. However, we know that past experience with relapse does not guarantee it will happen again. In fact, at Serenity Vista we specialize in treating addicts who have struggled with relapse in the past. We believe that past relapse provides us with insight and lessons to aid us in going forward. To identify areas that may have been overlooked or inadequately addressed in past treatments. By digging deep, addressing core issues and learning from a past relapse, the quality of recovery can be dramatically improved with achievement of inner peace and lasting sobriety.Emphasizing a holistic approach, we work with our guests individually to help them recognize their triggers, deal thoroughly with unresolved issues, and discover their inner strengths to help them moving forward toward transformation.
"I'm not that addicted," is a self-spoken mistaken beliefcommon to many affected by alcoholism or other forms of addiction. Some believe they don't need rehab until they've hit 'rock bottom'. We agree; if someone is so low that they can go no lower, they should seek help immediately. But our more than 40 combined years of working withaddiction has shown us that the path to recovery is far more difficult with each passing day spent in addiction. Instead of waiting and allowing addiction to worsen, we recommend addicts seek treatment as soon as possible regardless of what stage they are at. Whether rock bottom or not, no matter the severity or substance, every day of addiction is a day spent caged and in the dark. Whereas every step toward recovery is a step toward the light and lasting freedom.Remember that your bottom can be whenever you stop digging!
People tend to think, and for a good reason, that treating drug addiction and alcoholism is costly. As anyone experienced with a typical rehab clinic can tell you, treatment is indeed usually quite expensive. That's what makes Serenity Vista so unique. Our relatively affordable and effective recovery retreat is located in beautiful Boquete Panama, which allows us to keep operating costs low. In turn, we're able to offer 45 to 90 day treatment programs at low rates unheard of elsewhere. Even better, we combine affordable treatment with private luxury in a tropical paradise where you can relax, have fun, and heal all at the same time as part of a whole life experience of holistic healing.Another perspective to keep in mind is that, while treatment does cost money, untreated addiction is always more costly. And the 'cost' of addiction is much more than monetary, which can be huge. It often includes poor performance, lost jobs, broken relationships, ailing health, lost opportunities, violation of personal values and dignity, legal consequences, and on and on. All aspects of a person's life is adversely affected by the progression of addiction. When juxtaposed to the one time cost of high quality, effective rehab, addiction rehabilitation treatment delivers an unparalleled 'return on investment'! A life of sobriety and a transformed life to one you love is priceless! And it's for life. Literally.
